Side Injection vs Top Injection
« on: 03/19/12 20:35 UTC »
i need some help from the experts out there.. I am looking into getting a 6inch swimbait mold(for saltwater) that I would like to shot with two colors... Would i be better off with side or top injecting? I would be using a blending block to assist with the two colors...

I would think a side injection would yield a cleaner bait.  Less turns to deal with.

My bad;  I thought the orientation of the bait; laterally; determined the mold's specific's.  I agree that injecting straight off the nose of the bait is the best.  3/21/12. As always, Ghostbaits and Frank are dead on.

Does top injection mean that the sprue opening is at the nose of the swimbait? I would think that is the better option. Or am I wrong?

Where is the opening on side injection then?

Top injection is what you need. Both will actually work but that turn can cause issues.

Side injections have a 90 deg turn to enter the mold cavity. And Jim is right it will work but the top will be way more consistant. But they have to be ported one to a bait. Frank

I want to thank Jim for his advise... Top injection is exactly what I was looking.. It is a slow process making one bait at a time but with some practice they are starting to look ok...

THANKS JIM!!!

What is the advantage to a side inject?

It allows a strait injection into the mold cavity.  This will provide for laminates on a single cavity mold.  Many side injection molds are single cavity.

I think the big advantage of side injection is multiple cavities in the mold. Top port only allows a single cavity unless you have multiple ports.
