In 1968 my best friend's family moved from Rochester to Waseca, Mn ....home of the original Herters. One spring day a couple buddies and I skipped school, found some beer and went on tour to Waseca to visit him. After convincing him to skip the day we ended up in the Herters store for most of the day and I spent way too much on tackle making stuff but what I really want was these sun-glasses, aka shooting glasses. I've worn these to death and they're still like new. The original case has some wear but the glasses are in excellent shape. At 17 I thought those yellow lenses were just plain cool. It wasn't until I got serious on trap shooting that I learned to appreciate them and I wore them on night shoots. Winter driving on cloudy, dingy days has sure finds them handy and they stay in the van" glove box to this day. I wear them on the bench at the range too. I have RayBan's that do good for sunny day driving and fishing but the lenses, even though they are glass like the Herters specs, scratch easy and just cannot stay nice like the old tried and true. I sure miss quality and these old glasses simply scream it.
