PB 6 lb 4 oz smallmouth
« on: 03/31/12 21:51 UTC »

I didn't make it out onto the river until about 5:30pm and it was a breezy, "seasonal" 45 degrees. But I did't stay cold very long!

I landed this PB 6lb 4oz Smallmouth on the 3.5" Swim shad! I've landed a couple smallmouth that measured 21"-22"...but none were as heavy as this girl! This is my first smallmouth over 6lbs.

The Swim Shad was the hot bait tonight, not only did it catch the smallmouth it also caught a couple walleyes, a really nice Northern Pike, and a largemouth. I also got 3 really nice white bass on the 2.5" Swim Fry.

Check out the other "seat filler" pic in the Gallery

That is a true Giant.  That one goes in the lunker club. A smallie over 6 is the equivalent of largemount over 10.

Way to go Andrew.   :D    Nothing like catching a good fish on a bait you yourself created.

I would love to feel the fight a small mouth offers! I'm guessing that one was tough to land? NICE FISH!

Kip, I went fished with my Dad in Michigan, May 2009, in Lake Paradise...Smallmouth City!  I'm 34, spent my 1st 31-32 years in LA, so I'd never caught a Smallmouth before.  I had my camo waders so I got in the water...my Dad was in a little boat.  He didn't catch quite as many as I did, but he was catching better size fish.  IMHO, Smallmouth are like the Redfish of Freshwater.  They'd just about pull the scales off of a Largemouth of the same caliber.  Healthy Largemouth definitely hold their own, but not with the Spunk/Vigor/Pep as Smallmouth.  Look at the size of the Tail on that Seat Filler!  Talk about Turn Water!

Sorry to Thread-Jack, Andy Sir!

Jack-a-way....it's the memories that really count....

I had kind of an interesting day today....I caught some largemouth...none very big...on some really nice laminate Freedom Fries I made up during the winter. There were not very big...but I enjoyed them as much as that big smallmouth, thinking about how I made those baits this winter...and confident that they would catch some bass this spring.

Like I said...it's about the memories and enjoying the whole thing.

That smallie is a tank. Black beast too. Our ice-out smallie bite didn't come about this spring. Ice one day, 45 degree water the next. Were you fishing rock Andy?
