I've always heard that a nice set of spurs was referred to as HOOKS... and any bird sporting these bigger spurs was referred to as "a limb-hanger" because a younger bird wouldn't have hooked spurs and therefore could not hang from a limb... but I can see your usage and how such spurs could also be called limb-hangers for the same reason.  Anyway, my hunting buddies and I have passed the phrase "nice hooks" back and forth when congratulating each other on bagging mature toms, so when I looked again and saw the spurs on the V-core, it led me to the immediate thought of having some "nice hooks" (which I'm sure you now see the connection).


I'm guessing these terms might be somewhat regional/generational like the old timers where I grew up referring to walleyes and saugers as "pike" (i.e. walleyed pike and sand pike).
