So I have a spinner bait mold. SJ-4-A. It says to use eagle claw 253 hooks. So I ordered the from Do-it molds. However, when I tried to use them the shank was to short and doesn’t work in the spinner jig mold. What’s up with that? I’ve posted pictures of the mold

Can anyone from Do-it chime in….and possibly point me to a hook that would work in this mold?

Yes. I think I just need a long shanked hook and it will work

Try the Mustad 32608N. It's got a round bend and a much longer shank than the 253.

You can also use most any straight shank plastic worm hook if you want a really good hook, but they'll be expensive. I use some Owner's to make spinnerbaits.

The 253 will work but 2 things need to be right. You need the right size hook for the cavity you are using and the wire form has to be in the correct spot. The wire form should attach to the hook in the widest part of the cavity in order for the hook eye to be completely covered with lead. In the mold you posted the picture of the spot the wire form and hook meet is in the wider back end just above the collar. The Eagle Claw 253 and the Mustad 32606 are old hooks with normal shaft lengths so they seem short by todays standards. The Eagle Claw 255, Mustad 32608, VMC 7250, Owner 5320, and Gamakatsu 550 are all long shank spinnerbait hooks that should work fine for that mold.

EDIT: I saw the pictures you posted in the spinnerbait section and you have the bait upside down. Wire forms were different back then so the baits were laid out different. On this one the sprue is on the bottom of the bait, so if you flip the hook so the point is on the opposite side you'll notice it can go further up and be in the right position. That said, the other hooks will work for you but the ones you have will work as well. Just remember the sprue is on the bottom side of that spinnerbait and you'll be fine.
