Canadian wildfire smoke
« on: 08/01/21 08:08 UTC »
....has made for some outstanding sunrise and sunset pictures but is sure raising heck with my lungs. Yesterday and again today the air quality monitor site shows here in Rochester having the highest degree of smoke pollution in the state. On Thursday we drove home from the cabin in even worse smoke. We had a small thunderstorm yesterday afternoon and the smoke was so bad we couldn't see the storm coming, just a slightly darker sky with thunder.

I know a lot of other states have been struck with this smoke invasion too: the Dakotas, Iowa and Wisconsin for sure and I'm pretty sure Michigan and points even further east. Bad stuff it is. Even healthy persons can experience burning in the lungs and shortness of breath. Some Mayo Clinic patients from out of state were interviewed  for our local news yesterday. One couple was from L.A. and they commented that they thought they'd left the bad air back home. Three out of the last four days have seen our air quality as unhealthy.

The camp we go to in Canada has been posting some picture of the smoke. I remember a few years ago being up there and if the wind was right you could even smell them.

We smell it all the time now. On the way home from the cabin on Thursday we could see the smoke swirl in semi tail drafts.

I've smoked 3 packs of Canadian Wildfires already this morning.

Over here in NW Montana haven't seen the mountains for weeks although I'm sure they are still there.
A new fire popped up about 40 miles away yesterday and has burned at least 20-25 houses over night.
And on top of that it's to hot to go fishing!
