Not fish and no pics....
« on: 11/08/21 19:52 UTC »
.....but I tagged a nice buck late this afternoon with the in-line blackpowder pistola. 35 yard poke and the critter dropped on the spot and never quivered. Love it when things come together.

Nice deer bass boys and congrats tom.   Where ya from bass Boys? I used to love deer hunting but here in Ohio they don't care anything about deer it's all about the money.   Where I live we are some of the best deer hunting in Ohio but between the electronic check in now and allowing 5 deer per hunter plus coyotes out of control and cars hitting them they just don't have much of a chance and 98% of the ones we see are small as if they are not getting nutrition and wouldn't even be worth the harvest. I have no idea what is going on but it's messed up.  Not to mention out of state hunters come in and amish is buying most property up around here and no hunting on them and folks are leasing properties so unfortunately deer hunting has went to heck here.  I see a lot of folks complaining about it on the  odnr Facebook page as well but truthfully doubt they listen.

Not sure what part of Ohio you live in but North Central Ohio is alive and well with plenty of deer. I don't hunt anymore but have seen a ton of huge bucks this year running around. Many of my friends have been posting some of the biggest bucks I've seen in years. Here's one from Mike.

I am in Southern Ohio down in  Athens County it  sounds  like I need to come up that way. I  have  heard that deer were populated up that way  I  have not purchased a deer tag or hunting license in probably 6 years.  Something bad is going on not sure really what it is we used to have so many people out hunting now it's here and there.  Next time I'm out I'll try to get some pictures of deer they are small and thats not right it's like they are not getting food or something.  You will see a nice buck here and there but it's definitely took a bad hit down here.  This used to be one of the best places for people to hunt so many from Columbus used to always be here hunting every year.   I  used to always get nice deer it's just really messed up.

Genetics that make large deer are getting washed out of the herd. Is there antler point restrictions there...a minimum point count on one side?

Last I knew, you could only shoot  1 buck in Ohio per hunter .  Here in Michigan we can shoot 2 bucks, 1 with restriction on antler points. That's why we here in Michigan feel the Ohio bucks are bigger. Apx. twice as many get shot each year in Michigan. That makes it harder for many to get older and bigger.

The biggest problem in Indiana is getting permission to hunt. Everybody wants hunting lease money and most of it is very high priced. That's the reason I no longer hunt. When i was a kid I had permission from most of the farmers around me to hunt and trap. As these people got older and sold out to bigger farming operations, they didn't want anyone on their property or they want several thousand dollars for permission.
