Finally got out
« on: 12/16/21 15:23 UTC »
I finally got a nice day with temperatures in the upper 60’s-low 70’s. So I took off work today to chase some smallies and musky. Long story short there were a plethora of small issues that just kept rolling into bigger ones.  Ended up having to cut the float short. I did manage one smallie in the 15” range on a buck tail manic mullet/slick shiners combo. Although aggravated, I’m just thankful to have gotten out in mid December.

Any open water fishing in Mid-December is a great trip. We had upper 60's here yesterday, mid-20's here for a high today. Wicked wind storm here last night. Lots of damage.

A buddy and I actually hit the Mississippi backwaters yesterday morning but found them slushed over from the heavy snow earlier in the week. Check a marina's dock pilings but found those slushed in too. No real ice, just slush a foot deep. Glad you found some open yet.
