New reel
« on: 02/28/22 12:41 UTC »
I decided to replace a 40-year-old Sahara with a new reel. I've had a couple hundred bucks in gift cards at Scheels so that's where I looked. Not too long ago I go a new 1000 series Sahara and was going to get another, but they were out of stock.... actually, I think the one I got a short time ago was the last they had in stock of that size. So, the hunt began, and I finally settled on this reel:

It's made by Diawa and is one smooth reel, plus I like the instant replacement warranty. Spooled it up with #4 Trilene XL after hanging it on the rod. Got the slip knot on the line along with one of my hand-made floats and one of the modified bat head jigs. Now all I need do is pop on a plastic.....when I find some open water.

My fishing buddy and I are going for a cruise tomorrow to check on things along the river and at our local lake. The ice can't be gone fast enough. Its 44 degrees here and while that's a great temperature for March first I'd really like about 60 for the next week. I have some open water then.

Looks like a nice reel.  I  recently got a couple new rods and reels combos getting ready to put on some line after bit.

I am not familiar with that particular reel but I have become a huge Daiwa  fan over the last few years.  Looks like a nice one.  Hope it does right by you.
I find it incredible that I have to explain to a grown American citizen that taking a knee during the National Anthem is disrespectful.
