Pill head (Aspirin)vs Freestyle jig
« on: 03/12/22 05:25 UTC »
Hello good people

The Pill head and freestyle jig seem to be very similar, the difference is obvious, no lead collar on the Freestyle but other that that and the wire keeper how are they different. I’m curious, I have the pill head but WANT the freestyle mold cause it’s cool looking. But money being tight I want to know before I get it now or it can wait. Thank you

I would say they fish about the same. You can tie a plastic keeper on the aspirin head behind the collar if you want. Some guys perfer to tie hair jigs on the lead collar and some perfer the plain hook shank. So I would say it's up to you. I have both and the freestyle is nice for putting eyes on, but you can also do that with the aspirin.

The Freestyle has eye sockets where the Aspirin head has simple flats.

I have the Freestyle and sold of the Aspirin head mold simply because I fish plastics and prefer the wire keeper. Both are very nice heads and I would suggest that if you are a hair or feather tyer to hold onto the Aspirin Head mold. The cast on barb and collar are manageable with most plastics except for very small ones or very narrow ones.

I had the aspirin head mold and ended up selling it.  I didn't care a lot about the collar on it.  I just recently got the freestyle mold and it's a lot better for me I shoot with the wire keepers and without them plus like ctom said it has recessed eyes in the freestyle which makes it nice. I guess it depends on what you prefer.

I have both molds and for the same weight, the Freestyle is a much larger head, since the collar on the aspirin head is also included in the head weight.

I like both, but really depends on what I'm doing with them.

I'm usually using the Freestyle for plastic, but will use the aspirin head for tying and/or plastics.

You can put a much thinner plastic bait on the Freestyle, than you can the aspirin, as is for both, since the wire keeper doesn't need a fat bait to keep it on the hook. The Aspirin head, that lead barb tends to split baits if they're really thin.

I also pour the Freestyle now with only the WB800 style wires, and frankly anything that takes that style of wire. IMO the WB400 didn't hold plastics very well and that wire also didn't stay solid in many heads, and became loose too easily, so I went to the bigger wires and that's all I use.

The freestyle head is a center balance head. This means that it will sit horizontal in the water when suspended above the bottom. The Aspirin head isn't balanced like that.
