Heat stablizer

When do you use heat stablizer? I was told that if your only mixing up 4 ounces of plastic ; you don't need stablizer. Stablizer was only for big batches of plastic that you had to reheat and keep warm over a half hour or more. What say you guys and if you use it what's the ratio of drops to ounces of plastic?

I always add it, just in case I over heat. Just cheap insurance

Amen.  Always add it .  I typically remelt my plastic much more than other folks do.

I use it a lot, especially in clear or very light colors. Like its been said, cheap insurance.

Me & Jason went through a problem with white a few weeks ago. It'd pour bright white for 3-4 craws then itd go south & start turning yellow. We did some experimenting & as soon as we put the plastisol in the cup (filled to 3/4cup) I added 40 drops along with my white & stirred it in before we even did anything.After it was heated each time we re-heated i added 10 drops & stirred it in & it stayed bright white the whole batch.you don't have to add that much to the other colors,so colors like your black grape & blue ect I'd add 10 drops to keep it where you want it

I honestly didn't think we could do what we did. We may have used more HS than needed but we nuked a cup of white atleast 6+ times over a 30 to 45 min period and the last one was as bright white as the first. I was impressed...

The real key was a willingness to experiment. Good or Bad we knew we would learn something.

As far as how much and when to add, it really comes down to how harsh the heating is.

On my clear to white to very light colors I will add up to about 40 drops per cup, so I guess I'm in line with what you two discovered.

I have been using much less than this.  I have been using 10 drops per 6 oz. and hitting it again before the 3rd reheat.  I guess I am on the real light add rate side.  When I get some discoloring; I can almost always tie that to the glitter I am using.  I will get a little discoloring with pearl; but not significant; after the third round.  Unless you have the first and fourth injected baits side by side; it is not really noticeable.  I watch my heat closely and stir frequently to avoid scorching.  I will increase my add rate on the next pearls I inject and see what that brings.

     i am also on the light side when adding HS.. I was only adding 10 drops for 4-5oz.. Definately think im going to increase the amount I add..   Thanks for the info!!
