So.... with the New Year....
« on: 01/03/24 08:33 UTC »
....what's everyone going to try that's new this season?

I'm doing buzzbaits for pike next June when the water begins to warm nice. On the panfish front I'm doing some crappie spinnerbaits. For now, I think I've hit the apex of crappie plastics and plan to cook up some different color combinations with the molds I have to work with in the coming spring. With this weird start to winter here, having lots of ideas has had me in the shop WITHOUT heat quite a bit. Always something to try of a color to cook up.

What's ya'll going to toss out next season?

I just bought a new rod and am looking for a new reel (that I will pick up as soon as Digitaka gets it back in stock).  Have way more molds than I need and as a result I have baits that I have not even used yet but hopefully will rectify that soon.  Till then I will be out making yet even more baits just to keep me tinkerin,
I find it incredible that I have to explain to a grown American citizen that taking a knee during the National Anthem is disrespectful.

I have two boats and neither are operational at the moment, so I need to fix that issue!

Otherwise, I plan to get back to my business. I didn't make anything this past year, with my wife passing, and being motivated has been a struggle.

I hope to get my son Brian involved, and if anything happens to me, he'll have an income. He gets a disability from the VA, but some additional income would help him with household expenses he doesn't currently have.

I have some molds that I've not even poured yet. So, have to see about doing that! All are jig molds, I don't pour any plastics at all.

Otherwise, I would like to fish more too!

I traded boats last summer and have only had the new one out twice. I plan on running some trot lines on the river this year and trying to do some crappie fishing soon. I have the trot lines made and all the jigs and plastics I could possibly use in 5 years. Hopefully this year will be a good one for everything. My wife and I bought a new tent last month, so will plan to get some camping in as well.

Great thread Tom, thanks. I managed to luck into new old stock Style 9 Shad Head molds in 1/4-3/8oz and the 1/2-3/4oz. Going to tinker around with dressing those up for the summer beach trip. Really hoping to get the kayak out in the big water this year to fish a wreck a few hundred yards off shore.
I have a Bat Jig mold and some other goodies enroute from Barlows. Hoping that the crappie and perch like it as much as they do the Freestyle. Also going to keep practicing tying crappie jigs. Right now I just want some hard water to fish. But, in the meantime I’m enjoying fishing 30-50° weather using my sonar to find fish.

For me, it will be hand pouring.  I picked up one of the wackm worm OP molds.  I have some smaller molds, but this will be the first year playing with this mold.

As far as fishing,  I hope to try my hand and baits at shad fishing for the first time later this year.

I'm in agreement with the notion to fish more... I used to average 3-4 days per week, but the last few years personal battles have largely eliminated me from going at all... I only had the boat out once last year and would not have even done that had a friend from out of town not been leaning on me to take him out.  I did vicariously stay in the game by observing local tourneys and savoring the successes of friends.

It seems (fingers crossed) the dust is settling for my big projects and I have a goal to get out once a week -- at a minimum -- this year.
