Kyle and his kitty
« on: 02/15/24 08:28 UTC »
For those of use who are fortunate enough to have spent time with Kyle Steinfelt [?sp] at Do-It's Headquarters and know of his passion for trophy hunting, he managed to take this cat while doing a hunt on his birthday. What an animal.

I've been chatting back and forth with Kyle on his cat. 170ish pounds from Northern Nevada's Ruby Mountains. Kyle used a .243 to take the cat. What a birthday present, eh?

I would have been concerned that a .243 would have just pissed that big cat off. I’m thinking a .375 H&H would have been more appropriate for my peace of mind!  I just can’t get over how massive that cat is.

Like a bear, I guess the trophy is the pelt and skull. Is he going for a full body mount or ?

Guess how much food that cat would eat in a week! Certainly big enough to kill a deer.

I've been messaging with him and he's given some of the hunt details: Ruby Mountains in Northern Nevada and taken with a .243 rifle. Guessing at around 170 pounds so it really is a big cat. He has not mentioned any plans mount-wise but a cat of this size is a true trophy animal and others I know that have taken a mountain lion, many much less in size, have gone for the full body mount. Expensive, but then even an avid mountain lion hunter might see one of this size in a lifetime so I'd bet a full body. He and his bride don't have a bunch of little ones chasing around the house and he certainly has enough house for the full body.

He mentioned several years ago that a mountain lion was one of his bucket list dreams and I'm so happy he finally realized this hunt and to have it culminate on his birthday is remakable.

I've seen my share of Mountain Lions, Cougars and Pumas over the years but nothing that big. I've seen them up in the north woods of Canada, mid range in Costa Rica and as far south as Patagonia. So they know how to survive in many conditions.
