6" Carrot

The 6" Carrot is done, we've fished it, and it's awesome.  I'll post a pic later tonight.  My question is this, it's currently 4 cavities with our normal runner that reduces wasted / reheat plastic.  Because the baits are on the big side it can suck down the plastic and produce air in the tops if you shoot them to hot, or don't fill the spru.  Would you rather:

a) Reduce the cavities to 3 from 4
b) Have a larger spru / runner to pull from (more wasted / reheat plastic)
c) Keep the 4 cavities and monitor your heat or top off the spru

I like which ever way is cheaper on my wallet.

A) I know that a 3 cavity mold would be cheaper but I also like 4 cavities better than 3.

B) A larger sprue would work but

C) I like to pour a little hot and I always top off the sprue,

so thats just my 2 cent. Cant wait to see the pics.

I need to give my opinion as well.  Alex and I have been shooting this quite a bit today with very little effort the 4 cavities can be maintained with no issues.  I think with a very short learning curve we can keep all 4 and overall everyone will be happy.  Just my .02.  Still interested in what everyone thinks.  Here's the pic:



The action is really good.  I fished it wacky and t-rigged, basically just like a senko.  Overall I think it will be just as good if not better.  I know that's saying a lot, but it really, really looks good in the water.

That thing's huge! Looks like a good all around bait too that can be used for jerking, wacky, texas or carolina rigging. Very nice bait.

It's not "wasted", but isn't the most efficient stuff to deal with.  I know you have a good system for dealing with it, but wouldn't not having to deal with it, or dealing with less be better?  I try and minimize it so there's just less to deal with.  I don't know about you but I have a ton of bags of different color scraps and definitely don't want to increase the amount I have.

The reason more cavitys is better. With 4 cavitys you get one sprue. With 3 you get one. 12 baits 4 cavitys three sprues. 12 baits 3 cavity four sprues. If the blank is the same then the sprues are too. Frank

I've got it in the middle now and it shoots great.  It's 4 cavities, slightly larger spru / runner, and shoots great without topping off. 

If you use super soft and inject at 380 degrees, you may have to top off.  Personally, I like the action with regular vs. super soft on this bait.  Either way you will be fine as long as your injection temps don't get out of control (much over 350), if they do, topping it off will still give you perfect baits.

Not on purpose.  I do test new molds at different temps with different plastics so I can try and make them as accommodating to as many as possible and to be able to provide guidance when possible.  Everyone does it a little different...

I shoot most our molds between 330 and 350 for my own use.
