Well the Summer Season has Started
« on: 05/05/12 11:03 UTC »
My daytime weekend fishing has now totally ceased until Sept. 15th.  The Jet Ski, knee boarding, tubing season has started with a vengeance.  The large yacht; I have no clue of what a wake is; crowd are also out in ever increasing numbers.   Ah, we forget how nice late October fishing is.  Joe Wheeler is not as bad as many lakes; but is bad enough to run this old man off the lake.  Mondays are usually not very good fishing either, as the fish haven't recovered from the motor noise bomb-bardment.  Many moons ago I would fish Smith Lake in the summer to avoid the Skier Crowd.  But; alas; the Birmingham Crowd has descended upon this lake like a plague of locusts as well.  There are a few smaller 15 HP & under lakes around, but a 21 foot commercial Jon Boat draws a lot of attention.  Even when powered by a 8 horse tiller on the stern and  the big motor trimmed full up.  I even removed the prop on the "big motor" in an effort to fish one lake and still received flack.

I am completely with you on this one. It's the same way here! You try to fish and the skiers are completely out of control. They buzz you every time you turn your back and they have absolutely no respect for the individuals who are tending to their own business.  Now in some lakes that have a vast amount of shore line, I could see that, but as for lakes or res. that are small, restrictions should be placed for safety. Especially these 35 footers on a 4 mile long lake. If they're that scared of the water STAY ON THE SHORE! But as for the fish'in here, it is the season in which the wind settles and allows the fisherman to explore the waters on any size boat. Happy Fishing!
