With some free time over the holidays I’ve been doing some experimenting with various colors and material to restock my pan fish tackle supply. The first picture is a chrome perch pattern. I airbrush the blank in black. Then apply guilding glue and cover in gold leaf foil. I use a stiff bristle brush to flatten the foil out and whisk away any excess. I airbrushed kelly green alcohol ink on the back and the upper shoulders, followed by transparent black for the bars. I went a bit heavier on the black than I really wanted. Then a little white and orange on the belly.

The second picture I again sprayed the bait all black for a base color. I then applied guilding glue and a holographic fingernail film to the lure. Since I have yet to get the film to stick to every contour or crevice this is where the black base comes into play as you can see around the gill plate and eye. The black base just helps hide the imperfections as detail and depth. I finished it off with some transparent black on the back and Do It’s stencil for the lateral line and a white belly for contrast. Both were clear coated with UV resin.

How do you like working with the alcohol colors?

I do appreciate the kind words fellas. They take some getting use to. That is they will start pooling up if you use to much air and don’t heat set frequently.. I like to use them for their transparency on foil mostly, and sometimes as an accent with regular paint. Really got into spraying them while trying to duplicate the Luhr Jensen Krocodile spoon in sardine pattern.
