What color is preforming best.
« on: 06/27/12 21:27 UTC »
Guys, I was wondering if you all had a preferred color, and a preferred color by season.  This could be personal or customer preference.

Personally I like Green pumpkin black flake, GreenPumpkin and red flake now that I have moved to MS.  In KY fishing the elkhorn creek (small mouth creek) I preferred a light pumpkin with black flake and a green pumpking with gold, purple, and red flake.

Your turn.

. I love fishing a straight black worm. My other favorites are watermelon red and Junebug. And anything else with purple flake in it. Ive been liking the purple flake more and more.

Black grape in worms. And black.
 Beavers in summer craw.

Watermelon red in anything.

X2 on the June bug.  First year I have used it much. But it has worked well.

I pick my colors on water clarity.  Heavy stain I will usually throw white or dark.  Clear to Light stain more natural clear baits with greenish tones.

Sheesh....nobody tossing to panfish, eh?

For my crappies I will generally start off with purple or junebug/chartreuse tail with blue/chartreuse right on its heels. At times pink/white gets the nod or a smelt color. Water clarity and time of day play a lot into color selection, but since I start the day on the water before the sun is up the purple/chartreuse seems to get my nod as a rule.

Haven't had time to get out fishing much in the last few weeks but typically:

Panfish: twister tails in purple w/ chartreuse tail, chartreuse (with or without silver flake), or white set up with chartreuse, hot pink, or flouro orange/red heads.  Crappie tubes in heavy silver flake or blue/chartreuse.

7" ribbon tail: black or pumpkin w/ chartreuse or orange tail.

Frogs: color doesn't much seem to matter. :)  They hit ANYTHING on the top.  BUT I am making them in white, red, clear with heavy holo-silver & red flake, and remelting all of the frogs we've destroyed in the last year or two which makes a green or brown color.  Will be making some brown w/ flouro orange bellies for our August trip to Northern WI, fish really nail orange on that water.

My partners in crime have been nailing bass heavily with tubes this year, not sure what color but pumpkin seed is likely one of them.

Usually have a Rootbeer Black Flake Carrot tied on for my small creek smallmouth fishing. The few times that's not working I'll go with a darker color like Junebug.

When I was on staff with Mepps/Mister Twister and working the distributor and open water sports shows shows thru  the winter months one of the hottest colors in the Exude Comida worms was the watermelon/red flake. We'd always be short on this color when handing out samples even though we ordered heavy on the color for a show. The Comida was a heavy worm loaded with salt that was the Senco's competition. I still have 4 or five sealed bags of them in that color.
