Sauger soft plastic colors.....
« on: 08/09/12 13:55 UTC »
Any ideas of colors? Have a customer wanting some 3.5" shads for sauger. I think he is leaning towards some BRIGHT colors....

Thanks!!!!

This link should help:  http://anglersguidehq.com/DeansTackleBox/

Chartreuse is a popular Sauger color...but I prefer "minnow" colors...silver, white, black, watermelon/red flake (of course!).

However.... I just made up some chartreuse /pepper  (Char with black flake) 3.5" swim shads that I will be using this weekend for walleye and saugers. I will be vertical jigging them on heavy 3/4oz jig heads in 20+ feet of water.

I also make up a bunch of 4" carrots in the same color for jigs or drop shot.

Electric Snot (chart. with green and chart. flake) is also popular.

Amber with blue. purple and green glitter and a chartreuse tail would be great. A thin smoke with the same glitters and a chartreuse tail would be another nice one. There are times a transparent fluorescent orange is a hot color....generally on darker days. Clear with the glitters mentioned before is not a bad color and a chartreuse tail makes it another good option. Transparent  purple with the chartreuse tail is a solid standard color as is chartreuse in any of the popular glitter combinations.

Very nice Brent, multicolored jigs mid center are AMAZING! ;D Would love to see you jump in on the bait swap (along with every other member drooling over that picture). ;)

Brent.  Really, Really nice set of baits.  Excellent work.  We don't have walleyes this far south; but White Bass / Hybrids would eat those jigs up.

I made a friend a laminate 4" wutzit I called Peanut butter and jelly. It was a Peanut butter/ sand color top and a bright purple bottom. He did great fishing for walleye in our local river with it. I'm at work so I don't have a picture or recipe on hand.
