Buy a good depth finder and chase bait fish along the drop offs.

Amen to that.  Underwater channels, points, ledges, with current.  Depth finder with gps  & chart software.  GPS maps of the lake.  Find the food & you find the bass.  This applies except when the bass are hard on the bed.  Even then it will tend to indicate the best bedding areas as they a close to good "travel routes".
