stamping or engraving?
« on: 08/26/12 06:07 UTC »
I was just wondering, why the mold makers dont stamp or engrave what the mold is?
I just think it would be a nice little touch.

Yes it would certianly save me doing it and a 'T' for the top side. Besides my engraving is totally CRAP.
Note to self buy some stamps !! :P

Probably because of cost. Everything you can cut out helps bring down the cost and all of us marks our molds in different ways.

"Cost" was also my thinking.  Each step less, is that much less time, which would be that much less Man-hours (or Woman-hours) (Woman-hours may be even more expensive :D) (just kidding, Mrs. Diane/CCM Mom!).

To engrave a bit "neatly", one may be able to find some small, maybe 1/2" brass stencils...then an engraver, and engrave nice, neat, and even military-looking stenciling on their molds.  Ay, if they can "get the knack" for it, they may be able to make a few dollars by engraving others' molds.

I'd be reluctant to pound my molds with stamps, because the stamping takes hammer blows, which may warp them.  Oh to the No.

I would think cost would be minimal, man hours would also be low. SF1.75=swim fry 1.75 inch
or even program into the CNC machine, then once program is set to run, there is no additional man hours

I have had my name engraved in a bait before. Extra cost was $10. If you look, Del engraves his with the bait and his name on some.
