Sunset
« on: 09/05/12 09:00 UTC »
We had a sunset here in SE minnesota last night that was absoluetly something else to see.  The only time I have ever seen the sun even close to the color it was was while we were passing the big island in Hawii in the air.

Of course the old sailor's tale whic goes like "red at night, sailor's delight" played into this. There were some mega storms down Andrew's way and points to the south, just about the time we were watching this glorious sunset. Then right around 12:30 am....12:45 am, I got rousted out of bed by one colossal boom and the bedroom suddenly filled with high velocity wind. I have no idea how fast the wind got to blowing but its been a real long time since I've seen it woof like it did.  This morning we have a ton of leaf litter so I know there was hail in with the rain that fell. Andrew's area really got pummeled with some major hail. Our local news showed some pics of hailstones that fell in Andy's area that covered the palm of a hand.

While we needed the rian, its the sunset that has my trigger tripped. Every once in a great while the good Lord pulls one of these postcard moments up to treat us. Last night's sunset was one of those moments.

My front yard and drive was completely covered in nickel sized hail...darn near had to get the snow blower out! I had to put the FJ in 4wd to get up the driveway! (I could have waited for it to melt...but it's more fun to use the 4wd in Sept.!)

The good news is that we got 1.5" of rain...more than the rest of the summer combined!
