I will try and get one, but it will definitely be after things slow down.

Thanks,

Did you design this bait ( DD Gill ) with the idea of fishing it flat ?
This bait and concept has me thinking about different approaches.  Both shallow and deep water.   Even as a drop shot.

I think you could wacky that thing too.  On a weighted hook. Very little weight.  Just let it flutter.

Yes.  The DD stands for dying dinner.  That's exactly what it looks like in the water.  You can also fish it like a beaver style bait, a jerk / twitch bait, etc.  It really depends on what color you make it and how you want to work it.

However, for me you nailed it - it's a dying bait fish either high in the column, or struggling along the bottom.  Fish are opportunistic feeders, and I'm an opportunistic fishermen.   ;D

I've been looking for a good gill bait. My four year old was reeling in a gill last year and right at shore a huge bass popped out of the water and swallowed it and yanked the rod out of his hand causing him to fall in. Honestly I think it scared him. Once we made sure he was ok it was cause for a good laugh. Sadly the size 8 hook didn't snag the bass anywhere or he might have had his first trophy at 4!

As we pulled him out of the water soaking wet he says "Don I almost caught a big yarge mouth" He still has a little trouble with L's. That statement coming out of his mouth when I figured he'd be terrified made my day. At 4 he was worried about not getting the fish lol.

The DD Gill is a double edge sword for me...(one) it's only one cavity, so any production is limited to how many molds you can afford. (Two) Being a single cavity; it should shoot awesome laminates! :D I would expect to see some creative color combinations soon.

To produce a bait like this and have it be a laminate really required it to be in the mold the way it is with a dedicated spru.

Production will always be limited by cavities...  With the clamps there's not a huge difference in productivity - 1 mold vs 6.  You would see a big difference if you were comparing having 4 pro molds vs. 24 single cavity molds.

If there's interest we can always put it in a pro mold.

Jason - about what does the 3.75 DD Gill weigh?  This bait has me thinking more than any bait mold  I have seen in a long time.  Also your picture without the top and bottom fins ( just the body ) makes it a totally different looking bait to me.

Thanks  -  Weighing that much, it can be cast weightless.

For sure.  It also works super well with the HD Additive.  It's a fun bait to fish.  I've fished it as a creature flipping (like a beaver style bait), jerk bait, jig/worm presentation (letting it sink and lifting it off the bottom and letting it fall).  It looks just like a dying shad - really looks just like one.

My favorite way to fish it so far has been casting it up shallow with an arc so it splats on the water.  Bass think it's really a fish and they hammer it within seconds of it starting to sink.

I haven't fished it this way, but I think it would be incredible as a drop shot bait.  It's small enough, but also big enough that it should produce quality Bass and trophy Smallies.  I haven't proven this, but I'm pretty confident this will be the case.  Remember, dying fish swim on their side...  I need some of our Northern boys to help me out on this one.

Jason -   Thanks for the response
Here, when the nights get into the upper teens there are shad dye-offs from thermal shock late night into early daylight.  I can see this bait being an exceptional drop shot or slow vertically jigged bait at this time.   Fish get really zoned in on thread fin shad at this time.  ( Except the big cats  :D ).
