Hope you have better success than I have at HF.

The Klein thermometer at HD or Lowe's (or wherever) is a jewel, costs about $80 and works flawlessly, if someone is in it for the long haul. "quality is long remembered after price is forgotten"

I also have the Klein IR thermometer.  Some would say it is a little pricey @ $85 or so, but it does a good job.  It is a surface IR but it averages the temp while it is used.  I start stirring and then check the temp.  Inconsistent heating ( hot and cold spots ) is a fact of life with a microwave.  So, I stir some to get a temperature evening.  Shorter heating intervals and stirring reduce the potential for scorching as well.

 I have an Actron pocket ir thermometer. It's been working perfectly for 4 years. I even dropped it into a pot of hot plastic once with no ill effects. There is a seller on ebay that has them for $26.99 with free shipping.

You have a 1 to 1 ratio of distance for using it, nowhere in the add does it tell you this till you buy it... this means you have to place the unit less than an inch away from what ever you are trying to read! Spend the extra and buy a better unit with a memory, 2-4 to 1 ratio and an audibil signal when reading is done... yea they cost more, but there worth it!
Now I have two, should have saved my money towards the good one!"

I guess like everything, BUY THE BEST YOU CAN AFFORD, whether it's furniture, cars, thermometers...right denny??

No offense Brent, but I've had that very unit and was not impressed. Not very accurate. I bought the Ryobi brand from HD and its been much better. Also a bit pricey, about 75.00 but worth every cent. I also have the pocket type and it works well too. The only thing I don't like about it is it seems to take a while to get up to temp. I know the knock on the IR theeters is they only read surface temp, but if you stir the plastic first you'll get a much more accurate reading. JMHO

GUYS no offense taken, I personally use a digital metal thermo, I was only posting this incase some one was interested.
