How not to!
« on: 11/29/12 11:53 UTC »
I `ve been playing with my new CCM Swim Toad mold, made about 20 so far.I had put some eyes on a few,and this morning I went to the Gallery to look at some of the colors others are pouring. While looking at the photo`s something seemed a little odd to me,so I went out to the garage to look at mine. We got problems! I`ve been doing white-ish bellies, and changing up the colors on the heads, but, mine were upside down, all my heads were white. Feel dumb!  signed, greenhorn!! lol

Fish those things. Just because they aren't like the rest doesn't mean they wont work and well! Some of the greatest discoveries were mistakes  ;D

In tackle making nothing is dumb unless you have a blow-by due to a poor seal between the mold and injector and your zipper is down. Fish those baits.

I made a few kelly green and bright red bucktails many years ago. I showed them to some friends and they darned near choke laughing so I tossed them in the junk pile. Late in the winter a friend and I went fishing [yes he was one of the laughees] and what do you suppose he pilfered from my junk pile but one of the jigs. First drop...walleye near the 10 pound mark. Never, never write something off.

Fish them and see what they catch.
The way fish will look up at the surface to see the bait; a dark color on the belly will provide more contrast.  Also; the white will allow you to see the bait in the water from the top.  People look at things with a human biased point of view.  Is it right as to what will catch a fish is a big question?   I have never seen a real Bubble Gum colored worm or an Electric Chicken colored minnow; but they will catch fish.

I sometimes make them that way (I use yellow on the top)...so I can see them when I fish them in the slop. Green bottom...yellow top. Just tell people you made them that way on purpose so old farts like me can see them!

Ha ha.  You wish you could claim this as being the worse thing you've ever done.  We all know about your Onlynxcd.

We haven't blamed anything on that in a long time!!!

By the way...onyonlyx.... is a combination of Murphy's Law....and Jason's  inability to type a response to a question on his cell phone.

For awhile it was the general response on the Forum to "stuff happens"...or no one had a good answer.

Kind of like "The Force"...but backwards!

I can add to this story. I had a mold sent to me one time that I poured right but it swam upside down. Never noticed till the belly was poured in a lighter color. Thing happen. Fish them cause fish dont care. Frank

One of my favorite times in my shop this past year was when I had a 6 oz jar of gold glitter sitting in front of the microwave.  My microwave is raised up off the bench a bit so I can open the door without hitting things sitting in front of it, like 2 oz jars of glitter.  Well,  after I added the amount of that gold glitter into my plastic, and put the Pyrex in the microwave for 20 seconds, I looked at the open glitter container sitting there and actually thought to myself, "that is too tall...I need to put the lid on it and set it aside....nah, I'll just make sure when I open the microwave the door doesn't hit it....."

You all know what happened next.

Wait!  ...so I grabbed the shop vac(one of the small ones) and set it down next to the pile of gold glitter on the floor, and turned it on.  Wouldn't ya know I had the exhaust vent pointed right at the glitter pile.  At that point I just sat on the ground.  I should have taken pics.
