The Black Rock Bass that we are familiar with (Pacific off the coast of Southern Oregon , northern Cal) have been caught in deep water- we're talking 150-300 feet deep. The seem to relate to structure similar to small mouth in my opinion, as they will hover a bit over the bottom around ambush points. They seem to react really well to sound as well. This particular rig is called a "shrimp fly" and consists of a copper weight (4-6 oz at this depth), with a single hook attached, then single hooks attached up the line as you can kind of see from the pic. The Black Rock Bass ALWAYS hit this rig either right at the time the weight hits bottom, or right after, like within 2-3 seconds.
We are going to test their vision weight some glow in the dark baits this month and see what happens. I am still looking for those other pics, and I'll just post on this thread when I can find them..there are so many species of fish you can catch on a single outing...very fun. ....especially when its on your baits!
