Workshop Upgrade...
« on: 12/26/12 20:52 UTC »
Hello all.  I posted a month or so ago some photos of my workshop and wanted to show the upgrades to it.  I have recently purchased an attic fan, but due to back surgery it isn't installed yet.  I hope to have it up within the next week or so.  I have however, installed 3 sheets of tin on top of the bench that was sealed with polyurethane.  The poly was great, but I noticed after putting hot plastic in a Pyrex on it, it would start to get hot and gel up.  After noticing that, I went out and bought 2 hot pads, but even those got hot after hours of abuse and would get down to the poly.  The other issue was trying to clean it and using cookie sheets for curing.  As Crabbybass mentioned in my earlier post, I am a neat freak and everything has a place.  I didn't like having little drops of plastic and glitter everywhere.  I am in a mass production mode right now and using 6 cookie sheets was taking up space and I was running out of them.  I didn't want to go buy more sheets so I bought 3 sheets of 24"x36" tin from Home Depot for $9.99 (I think) a sheet.    I was able to use the new "tin bench" today and it worked out great.  Here are pics of the bench before lures were made and after.

Good looking shop.  I like what you did with the tin.  Is that a Tuff Shed?
Until next time.

That is a clean, well organized set up.  Watch out about grounding anything to the bench top.

Great job man! I cannot wait to see it in person. I know you want me to do that to mine but I am not a neat freak like you so it would take me all day just to clean it before putting the tin on.  :P

Those gable end attic fans work great - I have been using one for 3 years and love it.

Thanks everyone.  I didn't think about the grounding part of it.  I will keep that in mind for sure.  Thanks for the tip.  It was "dirty" just before these pics were taken.  After every time I clean up the bench and put everything back to where it goes.  The colorants are in the garage staying warm.  I use a kerosene heater when I am out there so I take the colorants out during this time of year.
@Smallie-thanks for the words, I can't wait to get mine hooked up and running.  I hope to do that within the next 3-4 days and will post pics of it.
@CrabbyBass-Thanks man.  I was pleased how it turned out.  Stop by anytime man.  LOL, you did fine cleaning yours up the other day. Let me know when you are ready and I will come over and help you with yours.
@Pieterbez &ODA-The next time I am out in the shed, I will take a pic of it while working.  I am the type of person that doesn't mind getting dirty, but stays organized as well.
@Denny Welch-No, it is a Handy Home 10'x10' shed from Home Depot.  I did research on them and a lot of people had a hard time putting it together, but if you have any general construction experience, it isn't too bad.  It took my dad, father in-law, and I 2 days to do it.  It was over 100 degrees each day so that is why it took so long.  We worked on it for about 15-20 hours total.  They are 2"x3" walls and rafters.  That didn't sit well with me and my dad, but after getting it up and done the finished product was cool.  We did some reinforcing on the corners and the sheathing, but that was about it.  They don't have anything in the corners so we added 2"x4" studs there.

Nice. Clean, neat, organized....The exact opposite of my garage. Great looking baits.

What are those baits on the top right? They look like they might work well for ice fishing if they are small enough.

Those are 2" hellgrammites. They have become one of the favorite lures in this area. They are very simple to fish and super effective. You would not believe the size of some of the bass caught off of these things. I took a big bag of these up to Door County WI in June and nailed the smallies with these. When nobody was catching anything I was hammering them with the helgies. I handed them out to people and they stated catching too. Ok, sorry I am done.  ;D

I fish the East shore of the bay in Ephraim, WI.  We have a time share in Bailey's Harbor, so we are there every year usually the second week in June.  This past year was the best it has been in a while.  I am going to say it is because of my helgies.   ;D  I had been looking for a helgie mold for a while as we have awesome smallie fishing by me in the DuPage and Fox rivers.  I couldn't find one I liked, so I made the mold myself out of POP.  They do not come out as perfect as they would in an Aluminum mold, but the fish don't seem to care.  Haha!
