:o Jeepers creepers!!! I hope a heron never grabs me by my tallywhacker!!! Seeing that doll rising to the surface had to be a serious "Oh Crap" moment. Fun thread. Good idea.---Tim.

I had forgotten about this until I read the blue heron post.  I was fly fishing the Ruby River in Montana about 8 or 9 years ago.  A mallard  was floating down the river and saw my dry fly floating about 3 feet away.  He made a beeline for it and I tried a quick back cast.   The duck was quicker than me, but not by much.  My tippet got wrapped around it's foot.  The duck freaked out and tried flying away.  He made it about 20 feet in the air before I got a handle on things.  My fly rod was pointing directly at the bird.  He's trying to get away and I'm trying to get him back on the water...like fighting a flying fish.  My tippet broke, the duck gave a "what the heck just happened" squawk and flew away.  I didn't see any floating duck feet and didn't see any hopping ducks so I am hoping it made it .
Until next time.

the bird and muskrat story reminded me of 2 instances of my own... I was fishing a top water hollow body frog in some thick woods one day when a little bird swooped down and grabbed the frog. Luckily he didnt get hooked when he ran out of line. Another night i was fishing a jitterbug in beaver infested water. The beavers are always out and usually just stay clear of me, well he didnt like my jitter bug and swarmed it. I actually tried to set the hook because it was dark out and i wasnt quite sure if it was the beaver or a huge bass. anyways, he snapped my line before i could even set the hook.

Well here's an interesting story for you all. One time when me and my dad went trout fishing together he missed a nice rainbow (he says it missed him I personally think he missed it) anyways when he went to real his loose line back in he felt that distinct tug of a bow and when he pulled it in we both inspected the lure and fish and saw that my dads 32nd ounce jig had gone through the eye of abeadhead nymph that was already in the trouts mouth!!!!

I have hooks a few weird creatures in my Fly fishing Life.
Hook a sheep on my back cast. Should have heard the reel screaming when that sheep realised something was wrong.
Caught a Bat on a Dry Fly at dusk on a small river.
Caught a Long Clawed Frog on a Mini Popper While Fishing for Bass
Hooked a Yellowbilled Duck while fishing for Carp.
Fish for the future. Please catch and release

I just remembered another time a large dragon fly snatched my dry fly out of the air while I was making a cast.  Sadly he got tangled up in the line, and while trying to untangle him, the line cut him in half.  He fell into the river, so hopefully he became trout food.
