Soft plastisol VS Medium

I'm thinking someone out here uses both and might be able to answer this. In a 4oz batch of medium at how many drops of softener are you just basically making the soft formula?

I was told there was 10% softener in the soft formula. That being said if you add 1 tablespoon of softener to 4 oz of medium plastisol you will have the same thing as CCM soft formula. If I was not supposed to share this info please let me know and delete this post.

That's exactly what I was looking for. I want to do a test and see if I should just be getting the soft.

I buy the Medium and if I want it soft I add softener. From what I understand it is a lot easier to make medium soft than it is to make soft into medium. But then on the other hand I find myself adding softener to just about everything I make... go figure...

Everything I make is considerably softer then the CCM medium and that's why I'm looking into it.

Be careful to take into consideration the fact that colorant will soften the compound as well.  In other words, if you make a clear bait, it will be significantly harder than an opaque bait due to the amount of colorant.

Never thought of that either. The fact that the base oil in the pigment will soften as well.

...and by no means am I trying to thread-jack here, but I also agree with a few others here in experimenting with HD that using the right mixture of Medium CCM plastisol with HD gives an exact weight AND action of popular other brands that use salt and also ADDS durability and actually softens the finished bait in my opinion.  When I use salt, I have to add softener when not using CCM Soft in order to preserve the right feel.

I'm always open to opinions and I'm always trying to improve the efficency and quality of my process. Responses from other with experience in what I haven't used makes that so much easier!

if a tablespoon is = to 0.5 oz wouldnt that be a 12.5% softener? close enough i guess.

what effects would straight up worm oil have? would that act as a softener as well?

Worm Oil and Softener are both plasticizers and will soften your plastic. The worm oil has a higher lubricity vs the dryness of the softener.

I agree with walleye Wacker. I buy nothing but soft and I even add softener to that formula on a few of my panfish baits. As it comes from the carton the soft is plenty tough for walleyes and panfish both. What sold me on the soft was the amount of stretch the plastic has before breaking. I have caught crappies of well over a pound holding onto nothing more than the tail of a bait, no hook in the fish at all. Soft delivers on bait action but doesn't mean the bait is whimpy in the least.
