Based on the color recommendations from the guys, I'd say blue, violet and gold for starter hi lite colors. I think white pearl is plenty to start with for pearl powder.

I like to tell first timers to go in "baby steps". That also should apply to how you learn to manipulate colors using the hi lite and pearls. Don't overwhelm yourself with so many variables right off, but get the basics down pat first.

This topic comes and goes, but buy yourself a package of legal pads and keep one and a pen right where you work. Write down everything, down to the drop, that goes into each color you make. When a "recipe" has been settled on that suits you, add it to a cook book saved in your computer's documents. Said document can be added to and changed as needed but will save you in the end. Botched plastic is the biggest form of waste we see. Expensive at that.

Another item to add here is a good infra-red or digital thermometer. One of these will not break the bank but one is an absolute MUST to have.

Keep this whole process fun. Get inventive after you find your feet and you will amaze yourself and fishing buddies will think you are some kind of icon. lol. And welcome aboard this crazy train!

You got some good info here.  When I started pouring, I started with green pumpkin and watermelon.  Most the baits I fished where in that color, and still my favorites today.  A suggestion for colors would be, what colors do you use most often?  Start there and add colors as you need/want them.  Or say the heck with that and get them all!  Glitter wise, red, and black are good colors used in lots of baits.  Look at the bait color you are trying to produce, and get those colors to start with.  As you go along, you will eventually have bout every color.  As far as my top ten colors, it would depend on the season and which region I would be fishing in.  Hope this helps a little, Joey.

I love me some Pearl Green!  Had to throw in some Pearls for Starter Colors...they should NOT be overlooked!  Next time You catch a Bass, Perch/Bream/Bluegill, Smallmouth, Walleye, Speckled Trout, Shiner, Cocahoe, Mullet, whatever...check it out, real close...most are SOLID Pearl.  The HiLites and UmpTeen other "base" colors (non-Pearl) will come later.

But yes, I'm definitely a fan of Green Pearl...it's pretty natural.  Silver or White, Gold, Green Pearls should definitely be on the list of Starter Colors.

Since I was a kid I had "this thing" for the #3...not sure why.  Now at 34, I buy almost everything in 2's...one for each eye!

...sorry for the edit...I must'a been side-tracked by that ice cream I was slayin'...

Wait til you hit 60. Then you'll be buying 10 of everything. One for each thumb.

And Inverted....I think you're good to go. Enjoy!

Atta boy! That "can do" attitude will take you far in this little world of plastics. And Gary can handle any question you toss at him. I'm old and my mind wanders but he's only in his mid-30's so he's the dude to ask. Right Gary? Or Denny.
