blue and silver
« on: 02/19/13 14:10 UTC »
A while ago I saw a thread about silver pearl and got to thinking that maybe I needed some of that. I oredered a couple ounces to see if there was anything to it. It arrived this morning and I have been at the play station for an hour dinking with all my new colors and stuff and did these small fry up in a nice, soft, soft smokey blue over the silver belly. Not bad, if I might say so.

The belly is made with 4 ounces of plastic, 10 drops of stabilizer, 8 drops of uv enhancer and what I thought was maybe 1/10 tsp of the silver flour. Honestly I had to add several small doses to get to the point seen here. This plastic was hand poured using a spoon into the belly cavity of the mold.

The blue is made using 6 ounces of plastic and 10 drops of stabilizer. I used a dip stick to add smoke blue pearl, a very little at a time AFTER I added about two drops of Caney Creek standard blue. There is a wee bit of blue glitter in there too. This recipe won't be super exact because I added a shot of raw plastic a couple times and more of the smoke a couple times until I liked what I had. Then the blue was shot over the pearl at 360 and the injector kept pressure for about ten secs.

I ixed up eye colors again to see if a preference came about when I get these to the water. The cover dip was 4 ounces of plastic, 10 stabilizer and 8 of the uv enhancer. If you look closely at the top two baits at the nose end you'll see that enhancer going to work along with the reflection of the blue under the cover dip.

I have about 40 different patterns of small fry baits shot now in line with my prefference for natural looking baits. I finally have some earth colors to work with now too. A couple in the watermelon line and a couple in the pumpkin line....2 greens and 2 browns. I've studied the gallery and plastic colorant order palette colors and think that those 4 will let me make many many more. to add to the 40.

This silver pearl is way different from the regular pearl and I think it has a whole lot of possibilities. I like it.
