Sharpie to add color here & there???

My son was asking if you could use a permanent Sharpie or Magic Marker on the baits. Like red to imitate a wounded or crippled bait fish. Or maybe a black or brown to change the body color on a tube bait. Thanks for your info.!!

You can but dont do them before hand. do 1-2 at a time while youre on the water because theyll bleed

I've had better results using the Spike-It dyes. Use a small paint brush to apply it. They have several colors.

Do-It has Paint Pens too, but even then I would dip the bait after that to seal it all in.

Tried to add a shad spot before and like Dobyns said, it will bleed in a day.  Agree with basskat, the spike it dyes are easy to add color.  I use a toothpick and dab the lure, makes nice little circles.  I've found the toothpick easier for drawing lines than a brush, unless you are wanting wide lines.  Joey

If you want crisp lines, use the paint made specially for soft plastics.  I had some years ago for some customization of some swimbaits I made with home made water putty molds.  The paints held up nicely.  I know some folks use the paint in air brushes with nice effect, but I never got that far with them.  I used a small brush.  It made the scales pop, and the red in a gill arch ridge looked great.

Never thought of the tootpick. I have used the handle of my paint brush.
