Latest Catch...
« on: 05/01/11 17:09 UTC »
I would like to post a picture of my fish from today but...

It actually was an awesome day.  We've had storms come through, but today was nice.  Still overcast and the fish were very active.  I caught a couple dinks, a 4 and a 6, but the big one got away.  I'm guessing in the 8 - 9lb range.  A super nice toad.  It was 100% my fault which drives me crazy.  She came up out of the water a first time and I started paying more attention to keeping my tip down than just getting her in.  She came up a second time and that was it.  She threw my jig and laughed at me.

I love the mental aspect of fishing.  I know it can be as simple as a bobber and a worm, but there are some real mental strategies and techniques to catching big fish.  She won today - but that's what keeps me going back.

On a different note.  I only fished 4 baits and two colors today.  Every bite came on a jig with the MD Craw Chunk (Caney Creek Green).  It has quickly worked it's way into a top spot as a jig trailer for me.  I know quite a few of you already have have it, but  if you don't and you want to give it a try let me know and we can pour up a sample bag of 8 for you.  Just specify if you want  Black, CC Green, Watermelon Red, or Green Pumpkin.

I forgot, I did take one pic.  This little guy was probably around 4'.  I saw another one about the same size and one that was pushing 6'.  In our area we only have one that is really big 9-10'.  You don't see it very often but it was hanging out in one of our neighbors back yard for a few days last year.

I'll have to take pictures of the gators at Choke Canyon next time I go down there.  Last time out there was saw one about 12'.  It raised its' head and started growling/roaring.  It was awesome, I wish I had video of it.

Being from New Mexico, I've only seen one gator in my life. I was in a junior golf tournament on Jekyll Island, Georgia. It had to of been 10 feet in length. Me and my competitors had a lot of fun throwing pine cones at it  :)

That story had no relevance to this topic at all, but it brought back memories.

I've heard there is a monster in Choke!

I bet there are some biggies in Florida.

That's what I was wondering - the impact on the fish population.  I wish the would eat all the turtles and nutra (sp?).  You know something that big has to be eating quite a bit...
