tomato and black grape
« on: 04/18/13 16:45 UTC »
Here's a couple colors I've had my eye on since they were made available in the X2 colorant. I finally took the plunge and I'm pretty happy that I did. My nifty little care package dropped on the doorstep about 10 this morning and as soon as Ma got the talons out of my backside I actually got to play.

The tomato is one strong color. What's shown here is a 4 ounce batch with three [3][tre][uno+dos] drops. The bottle I got I can see lasting a longgggggg time. I tossed in some fire red glitter and a shot of gold hi lites and what is looks like in the hand is a far cry from what is seen here. Its actually a fiery transparent red and the glitter gives a ton of depth to it while that little shot of gold hi lite adds a subtle something that every day reds don't have. The way I like to play with colors and the other components I can see a ton of fun in Tomato. If you want a nice clean, transparent red, this is it. I think in a small ice bait this color is going to be hot.

The black grape stands on its own two feet nicely too. I've always liked the color but have so many purples that I never bothered getting any until it was recently added to the X2 line-up. I may need a gallon of this one. Everything about the recipe you see here shows up very well. Starting with 4 ounces of soft formula CCM crystal clear I added three drops of the colorant, a dose of Canada Blue glitter and a shot of purple hi lite....purple, not violet. This results in a color so like electric blue I can't hardly believe it. It was one of those new colors that when the mold came open  it took a second to register. What first came to mind was, move over purple. In addition to crappies, this color has walleye written all over it.

Both colors were laid over a black plastic  covering a semi-transparent pearl white belly

Totally satisfied with these colors.

This part cracked me up.

Nice work Tom, very nice work.  Grapes and Tomatos... sorta like the produce section at the Piggly Wiggly eh?  (now I'm hungry again)

Thanks,

Jerry

A language lesson and a 1st grade math lesson all in one...  combine that with some pretty cool baits and I would say you've made a pretty stellar post.

The pic really is a rip for showing the true colors here. I took it outside, dodging rain drops and hoping the bottom of the cloud I was under would lift up a few feet. Garbage weather all day here. I don't like indoor lighting for my pics. I don't fish indoors and I don't want people to see my baits indoors. I like natural light.

The black grape in this mix is an unreal electric blue. It looks like it should vibrate all on its own. The pic just show it as it really is....either color. The sheen from that purple hi lite is visible though and I only added a dab about the size of a match head.

With the tomato I have left from today's batch I am going to try slipping a breath of bright yellow in on it to see if I can get a red-orange. With the heavy red glitter and gold hi lite I think it would be a great color for a back on a split color.

I got the tomato and black grape as adjustment colors but I like the way they stand alone too so I get double duty from them. lol

I love that tomato color and have been using it quite a bit since CCM came out with it.  Unfortunately, mine doesn't look quite as good as yours, Tom.  As always, good work.
Until next time.
