We get more sharks than you can poke a stick at down here in Aus, I know a great remedy that you guys could use when surf fishing.......You take a teaspoon of cement and a glass of water stir well, swallow and then hardin up  :-* ;D

Since I can beat a bowling ball in a sinking contest, sharks are no problem for me.

Those cute little blue jelly fish that I had a handful of when we were in Pesacola a couple years back, not hose could have been an issue. I had no idea they were what they were and was picking those bubbles off the edge of the surf when a guy with a fishing pole come along and about had a stroke. I had three or four of them by the ridge of the bubble and was showing Ma how long those tentacles were. Not so much as a sting. I did not go on another search for "see what I found" things that trip.
Those jelly fish were everywhere along the waterline. Moon jellys were washed up too.

I did get to chat with some shark anglers on a pier....unreal method of fishing for those toothy critters.

Mick, up here in North America, we bypassed the cement/water and use other things to "hardin up" as you say...but I hear you bro.

Have you Aussies ever heard of Toby Keith's "I am as good once as I ever was"...or something along those lines? Perhaps just confessing that a few times a day might help...words have power!!

Trouble is down here is that we have that many creatures around the place that can kill ya we kinda of just forget about em and get on with buisnes.

But on a serious note, we have had an increase in shark attacks in some parts of the country, one of the worst species down here for attacking people are the bullsharks as they enter the freshwater sytems up north and people arent excepecting a shark to be swimming around ...just croc's.

We also get a few attacks on our beaches every year with some years being worse than others and some parts of the country more prone to attacks. The three most common species of shark attacks on our beaches are from Bull Sharks, White Pointers , Tiger sharks

Mick, years and years ago there was a guy named Vick Hislop (sp. is way bad) who use to catch huge Great Whites, Tigers, Bulls, Bronze Whalers, etc. down in your nation with a 20 ft Shark Cat tri-hull.  the man was wild.. You remember that guy??

I've fished south Louisiana my whole life from the mouth of the river  to lake Charles and waded fished  more miles than most cars have driven and sharks are not a problem. I've been surrounded by hundreds of them and had them bite my fish basket and bite the bodies off the fish I was reeling in and never thought I was in a dangerous position.   think the key is when the big boys show up leave! Be smart! sands and little black tips will not mess with you. Piss you off yes but that's about it. I know when the big dogs show up like big jack fish and kings its time to leave because the A predators are migrating in thus BIG sharks. I caught an 8 footer off grand isle growing up it was a beautiful fish! Pay attention to the surf ,when everything is nervous you should be to. I'm more worried about horse flies and that dang sea lice!!!!! That stuff sucks! With that said I'll probably get ate tomorrow on Truman lake in the middle of Missouri  by a great white hammerhead bull shark lol

Many surfers, spring breakers get bit on Fla. east coast every year in a few week period...just a toe here, a few dozen stitches there. Sharks aren't man eaters, they are man biters. believe they gather to migrate north...or they're gathering for their own spring break.

The man eaters seem to happen in cycles...remember four attacks all at once in Panama City/Destin/Mexico Beach area

I definitely agree with man-biters, not man-eaters.  Very small percentage of attacks are fatal.  But times are a'changing, and I like my toes/fingers...and as few stitches as possible, especially if what I'm doing is self-serving.  Serving God, different story.  If the time comes where I'm hungry, I won't be quite so reserved.

Yep Vic Hislop was a mad shark hunter, he used to have an enormous semi trailer that he hauled around a frozen White Pointer that he showed at the local shopping malls. I remeber seing it as a young kid nearly 25 years ago.
