my sprue extenders
« on: 05/18/13 18:02 UTC »
Guys,

I usually don't post pics because I have a hard time uploading them on here.  With your help I think I have figured it out.  Here are some pics of sprue extenders I made today.  I made 10 of them for a specific mold.  When the plastic cools it draws all of the plastic out of the sprue and causes voids in the middle of the bait.  I will be trying them tonight but here it is.....this is what I started with 5/8 X 3/4" coupling.  ...ground down the ridges, , nice tight fit in the mold and finally looking in the mold

my cost $1.53 each.  Not bad for a first try.

Just got finished with a little Green Pumpkin...100% perfect shots.  no worries after I topped them off.  It is a little tricky as the extender wants to stick to the injector, but a little more practice will work out all the kinks.

I was having the same problem. I just held pressure a few seconds longer. Cleared it right up.

Good job, Mic.  Let me know if you ever decide to market them.
Until next time.

not to rain on your parade... those look great but you can already buy pretty much those exact things from copper fittings for cents.

Mic, may I ask what mold was giving you fits? If I ever run into the same problem, I'll know what to do.

Denny, wont market them, but I will send you a couple if you need them.

IPT, I was having trouble finding the copper fitting so I improvised, adapted, over came.  Mine get real hot...and I figure the copper will be worse.

I am not going to say which mold that was giving me fits...Lets just say any mold with a short sprue will have this issue.

your look better for sure, and yes the copper gets very hot, but its usually handle-able by the time the plastic cools. i really only use them for hand pouring, they will fit injector tips but like you said they stick to the injector. what solution do you have for them not sticking?
