Swim Bait Preview
« on: 05/08/11 21:03 UTC »
Here is a pic of our new Swim Bait.  Please let me know any feedback you have.  I just need to fix the top of the tail, I cut it short - just aesthetics.  It is 6" has a hook slot on the bottom and a small one on top (between the dorsal fins).  It is very weedless and has a nice tight wiggle on a slow retrieve and flaps like crazy if you burn it.  It is laid in the mold so you can easily hand pour laminates (and to make sure the fins fill out completely).  Any suggestions / comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jason

Does that have a hook slot?

It has a hook slot on the bottom, and one on the top.  The one on the top is shallow, just enough to lay the hook in.  There are two dorsal fins right next to each other to allow for the top slot.  The way we did the hook slots is really cool.  It holds the hook really well, but releases well also.  Besides the action, this is probably one of the best features of the bait.  It is very functional.

The bait is 6", it fishes well with or without a weighted hook, I would use a 5.0 - 7.0 hook.

You will be able to confidently fish this bait places you wouldn't consider throwing most.

On the hook, I am assuming that you mean an EWG??? Looks like a straight shank might just be to tight..... Next deal will be to see how the bait "folds" when you set the hook on a fish. Sometimes the big wad of plastic can get in the way of the hook point. I think with the duel hook slots, you should be set!

Looking good!!!!

Reduce the rear fins to a minimum

I would use a larger eye - Not sure if the area is recessed or not

Would like to see the tail in full view/different angles

A video would be nice to see the action

Agree with fatty patty on the eyes....also would like to see more angles and a video.

How is here a hook slot on top if there are fins there??

Why would you reduce the rear fins?  Just for looks?

The eyes are just a flat space and will accommodate a much larger eye.

I'll have more pics and video once it's finalized.

Thanks,

Jason

There are 2 fins on the top, right next to each other, the hook slot is between them.

When I post more pics you will see how they look.

Duel hook slot is a BIG plus. If you have tried to fish a soft plastic swim that doesn't have a hook set-up already embeded you know how tough it can be to rig the bait trying to skin hook just right on the top.

While there might be some cosmetics that we might want to change, I am trying to focus on the action as that really will be what the fish care about. If the action is good, I think the fish will eat no matter what the bait is like.

I caught a nice chuncky 4 lber this weekend on a swimbait.  I'm sure it would have thumped the one in the picture also!

I like the profile of the bait, it looks good.  I'm interested to look at the hook slots and how they are positioned.  Sounds like a cool idea.  Maybe you can take a picture of a bait that you have rigged.  I think that will really help us.

As with any swimbait, it's all about the tail action.  If the bait can stay true and not roll on a slow or fast retrieve then that's where you want to be.

Looking good!
