Knots...

What knot do you use with fluorocarbon (when tying to a hook/bait)?  Any feedback on the Double San Diego Jam knot?

Thanks,

Jason

I learned to do a Palomar knot and it has become my favorite. Very easy and quick to do and it is very strong. I also learned the Uni-Knot but trying to hold the line sometimes while tying is a PIA.

To the best of my knowledge this is the strongest most slip resistant knot to reasonably tie.  It It is for both fresh and saltwater. There are some spot glues to use on flurocarbon to assure non slippage under extreme stress ( ie Tuna fishing with a flurocarbon leader).
If tyed correctly and glued with the correct glue on flurocarbon this knot will not slip loose or pinch brake on mono, flurocarbon or braid.  All knots are subject to nick cut breaks but this knot is more resistant than most. Go through the eye twice; tie what is now called a Uni-knot with at least 5 pass throughs ( I typically use seven ), carefully rotate to remove any twists in the line,  moisten the line and slowly tighten.  Make sure the second loop isn't caught up in the hook eye slot or the split ring gap before final tightening.  It sounds more complicated than it is; and this allows double lines completely throughout the knot.  Per Dupont Stren R&D thirty something years ago.  Ande R&D also confirmed this knot back then for all Nylon 6-6 applications.

Palomar is OK but will slip if not tied well. The best (proven) is the Berekley Braid knot. I will have to go back and find the forum I saw the test results on but it out performed all other knots.

With fluorocarbon you only need three wraps on 10 pound test and above. Four wraps for 8 pound and below.......

PS  Rather than explain how to tie it, I figured it could be googled for a pic easier...

I use a uni on flourocarbon and a palomar on braid and mono. I have not had good luck with the palomar for flouro, so I switched to the uni and it seemed to cure all of my problems (i.e: breaking the line when I set the hook).

San Diego Jam for everything I tie direct.

Tony Pena knot for line/leader connections

Palomar knots and fluoro don't play well together...Too many bust offs on the hookset!
