Great visit....
« on: 07/29/13 15:59 UTC »
I had some stuff to do in Andrew's hometown of Winona this morning so when I finished with it I stopped by aAndy's office and we shot the bull for a while....an hour and a half worth. Next time I am taking a rod and we can sneak out for an hour of play not far from his office.

While we didn't seem to cure any of the world's ills we did come up with some great memories and some fresh thoughts for the future.

Andrew.....as always, it was great to see you again. We need to do a road trip. South a few miles.

Good to see you again too!

Those modification you made to the Snootie mold having me thinking of ordering a second mold and doing those modifications. That small Snootie mold has the perfect sizes for the Glider and some of the grub baits.

When you two do that road trip why don't you head West?
Until next time.

I'm going to try to modify some molds also. In addition to the large snootie and the small snootie ; I'm looking at the Ultra Minnow Jig. Same type of set up, I'll bet it will be a winner! Ordered some jeweler files today, stopping at a auto supply store on the way home from work tomarrow to look for some JP Weild exposy.

Wes..? What? West? No way. Too many indians, too little water. I have an idea though Denny....the next time you take a side trip up to the mountains, why don't you slide down the other side and come east? Oh wait....you said you'd do that if we got a get-together put togetherv at Do-It's campground, right?

I was born and raised (10 years) in Chicago a whole lot of years ago, but I still remember how cold I was.  Iowa was right next door, but you couldn't see far through the corn,  Wisconsin was where my dad fished don'tchaknow, and Minnesota...well...I think that's in Canada.  When the smelt were running on Lake Michigan I remember the big throw nets sometimes loaded with fish and sometimes not.  There would always be a big community pot of boiling oil nearby and plenty of cornmeal to go around.  These are the type memories that kids keep forever.  All us fisher type guys (and Buffy) have to remember that.
Until next time.

Smelting Lake Superior baack in the 60's.....what a time that was.The last time I was smelting was in 1970 and watched as two guys got swept out in the lake after taking a plunge on the Knife River. I remember what they looked like laying on the dock the next day...end of my smelting career.

Well Im actually from Texas. My wife said she wants us to move closer to her family for a while. It will be nice, she said. We'll have lots of fun, She said..... Yeah Right! I Said, lol

I told her no way I am moving up north. I'd go to visit, but that's it. Well its been about 5 years up here, Im still visiting....  ???

When she first showed me smelt, I thought we were going fishing. I was sure surprised when she fried them up and wanted me to eat them. I told her, Girl, your crazy. You just fried up my bait. She said. No, that's what we eat up here... Try it, its good. I did. it was good. I actually have some in the freezer right now, lol

I do miss back home. I used to go over to Galveston and do a lot of Beach Fishing. I miss the food back home. I'd kill for some good ole cracklins right now.

But all in all. I am enjoying myself up here (except in the winter).
