baits shot fishing tonight report to follow
« on: 08/01/13 13:20 UTC »
I just got done shooting a ton of baits, Fry's in 1.75 and 2.50 sizes, swim fry 2.5 crappie carrot 1.75 as well as slab wedgie and hellgrammite and ball tail baits.
We are fishing at dusk into the night with the crappie lights.
So I shot some silver, black, the cut throat trout, and glow in the darks. I hope to have some pictures for you all in the morning ;)

Just wanted to follow up, we started fishing 10-14 feet of water, they had been cutting weeds for the last 2 days and the pleasure boaters were still out so the water was pretty messed up. I fish a bit different than most, 7ft UL Gloomis rod, Shimano 500 or 1000 reel with Nanofil to a Aquatek to 18" of mono
This type of set up allows me to float baits( Nanofil floats, Aquatek is a floro swivel and mono floats), the sink rate is incredibly slow especially with wide body baits.

The pumpkin seeds and gills loved this bait, Black worked well during the high sun as the sun started to set we went to the Cut Throat Trout and then finally to the glow.

We drifted around the lake in search of schools of fish but hearing about the weeding and power boats I figured they would be scattered, I started casting a slightly heavier set up which includes a 2.5 Fry rigged with a tube jig head, this makes a faster search lure. yet I can still glide the bait. Which yielded a couple green carp ;D and 2 crappie

The Swim Fry work just as well if not better, rigged with a ball jig head, the black color looked like a leach in the water, but this time it was the Cut Throat Trout with Kelly glitter that was the ticket

Here is my buddy Ed with a nice Seed

Any night fishing is a good night, we picked up a couple fish on glow but things shut off about 10 pm, we started heading back in when I noticed how much the bucket (where I keep my baits) was glowing, had to snap a picture

Forgot to add this picture up top, but these were the baits for the night

 ;D ;D ;D

What a great post, Brent.  The pics were not only informative, but they brought life to the post.  Good job.  BTW, what is that bait with all the legs.  Centipede?  Who makes the mold?
Until next time.

Those baits look great. I especially like the hellgrammite, it really looks like that would be a fish catcher. If you ever want to trade some of those off, I'll volunteer  ;D

yeah - I like that hellagramite - and I found the site - I don't want to drive anyone away from here - but that looks like a killer bait.

It's a good thing you threw the disclaimer in there, Brent.  I've been nailing a bunch of others because they didn't include it.

Thanks for the info.  I'll check Jacob's site.  I used to fish hellgrammites quite a bit as a kid.  We'd put a small seine net a couple feet downstream and start turning over rocks.  When we ran out we'd just turn over a couple more rocks.  Caught a lot of trout on those things.  They weren't 2" long though.  More like something you'd stick on a size 18 or 20 hook.
Until next time.

You've got a good case, Mo.  Send me a small retainer and I'll start looking for a "good" lawyer.
Until next time.

Don't know about you Mo, but I left my retainer at the orthodontist many years ago when he told me I didn't have to wear it any longer.  You might be able to find a small one on ebay or something maybe...

just tryin' to help   ;)
