Shake jigs

 What weight is the most used in 5-15' of water ? Is it 1/8 3/16 or 1/4 oz. It probable depends what kind of drop speed they are liking. Or do you need it to stay on the bottom like a drop shot so you can shake it. mike

I use 1/8 and 3/16. The most. Only go to 1/4. If the wind picks up.   Or if the other two don't work to see if they do want a faster fall.

  I think it all depends on what your fishing with. Most guys when you say shaky head they use light line and 4 to 6 inch stick type worms. It's nothing for me to take a 12 inch ribbon tail worm, 3/8 football shaky with 20 pound fluorocarbon and fish a rock pile 10 to 20 feet deep. I use the heavy weight to give me a longer cast and the 20 pound test to give me a good hook set. With this setup I can fish it with a bait caster and do just fine. I normally use two different types of shaky heads. The ball type for fishing weed lines and the football for fishing just about everything else. I will fish the 6 inch dragon tail on an 1/8 shaky if it's a tough bite. I've caught a ton of fish on that bait.

Lamar -  Do you change the tip color on the Dragon Tail or just inject it as a single color?

  I do both. Bought the tail mold to make it easier. Seems like if the water is muddy a black body with bright yellow or blue helps and in clear water I stick more to 2X CC green. Most guys look into my selection of worms in my worm box just shake there heads. I have many types but they're all black or 2x CC green with some black flake. I don't think it makes any difference. I worry more about getting it in front of the bass in a matter in which he'll eat it.

What's the recommended Do-it mold for Shaky jigs??

Just lookin' at them I'm thinking #3451 Tip-Up Jig or the #3453 Football.

And Paul...all my Dragon tails have two colors. The tail mold helps make it faster ...but it's such a short shot bait you can just trim the tails and make a pile of them and then reload and inject the body color. My favorite color combo so far is black/blue flake body with a bright (dark) blue tail. Watermelon Brn with Chartreuse tail looks nice too.

The fish (I suspect perch and walleye or sauger) really like to bite those tails off...so they must add something to the appeal!

After reading all the posts on this...I'm going to hit a couple deep(er) spots off the current breaks and try shakin' some Dragon Tails and see if I can find some bass. Maybe that's what they want!
