Special Request
« on: 09/01/13 14:48 UTC »
Well I got my first special request in today. A guy in Minnesota sent me an email saying he was on the lakes not doing so good, but he noticed  a couple of people raking them up not too far from him. When he was able to ask what they were biting on, all he got was "Top Water" and they really like the color Red. So he asked me if I had anything like what they are fishing with. I told him about the Frog I just bought. So now I have made him a few frogs and I am throwing in a few swimbaits as well.

Red, like what you've mixed for this, is a sleeper color up here. Its become a very dominate color under the ice.

A couple years ago I poured some smoke with red glitter stick worms for a trip to northern Wisconsin with my nephew.  I accidentally put in WAY too much red glitter and when they were done they looked like a bad Valentines day card.  So I took them along anyway and we laughed at them...  One slow sunny afternoon he says, "let me try one of those red ones".  Bam... he went nuts on them for three days.  Clear water, sun, ... they were all over the red glitter.  Its a color we now refer to as Valentines Day!

Years back I tied up a handful of "Christmas" jigs. They were bucktails. Green/red split on head color and corresponding hair colors. Uggggly. I had a friend up to one of the big river dams in January and he pulled one of the jigs out of my box and asked if he could try it. Why suuuure. First drop, first jig....11 pounds of walleye hits the net. I tied one on one of my rods and it too caught my only fish that day...a sheephead.   But like I said before. That red can be a sleeper color, especially under the ice.

Red Mann's Jelly Worms (I love those baits!) are a killer in clear water.

I made up a bunch of red Spear Tail worms last winter...but I haven't tried them yet this year.
