Excellent colors and tying!
The orange craw jig colors are pretty close (hard to tell with my monitor!) the colors I use when I tie craw flies for fly fishing.
Another little touch would be to add a shell of red/brown squirrel tail across the tail.
Tie it to the shank of the hook first with tips facing the eye of hook.
Tie in a piece of copper wire (to rib and reinforce it) and then do the same as you have done in your pic.
Then lay the squirrel tail
flat across the back (tips now facing towards the "front" of the jig vs. the "tail" where the jig head is, and wrap the copper wire (you can get it from an electrical cord) over the squirrel and between your legs.
Wrap a couple times after where your rabbit and rubber hackle is coming out (like a tag) and throw in a couple half hitches. Do this on the shank...NOT on the bend of the hook.It should be the last material on the shank. You can use it to hold your crystal flash and rubber legs down ....or if you prefer allow those to circle around the tag like a collar.
You can splay the squirrel on either side of the hook to help keep the rabbit apart and not wrapping around the hook. Most guys would have the squirrel long enough to match the tip of your rabbit, but I personally think it fishes better if it only extends a tiny bit past the skin of your rabbit, which allows the fur to really move!
If you want to get even crazier....melt the ends of the thickest mono you have (sometimes weed whacker mono works) into little black balls on both sides and tie them in like eyes (you can buy them already made up also). I would use the wire to tie them in. If you try to make eyes...hold the mono in a pair of pliers the width of how far you want the eyes to be. The pliers will keep you from burning your fingers (!) and give you the perfect distance between the eyes. Burn it straight up and down so the drip helps form the ball. It takes a LOT of practice! it will smoke like crazy so do it outside ...or you might just set off the smoke alarm and the wife will really chew on you (I wonder why I know that ? !!!).
Ok...this is totally obsessive compulsive...but it you want the craw jig to be a female with eggs. Tie in a little bit of yellow chenille after the first wrap of orange at the football head. Your squirrel tail will cover over the yellow on the top so it will look like a little clutch of eggs under the tail!
I'm thinking "Bucktails and jig flies" needs to be a new category on the forum ! I might just give up this plastic thing and start tying again!
