Made My First Pour Today, Question
« on: 09/24/13 19:20 UTC »
I tried my first pour today, the one on the left is with 6 drops X2 Chart, I knew I didn't have enough glitter and I added 2 more drops of color. It still doesn't have enough Glitter and it lacks something to match my target bait on the right. Open for suggestions.

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter - and unsafe.

Looks pretty close.  I'm looking on my phone and I'm a little color blind. But does the one on the right have a little green glitter in it.  Or is that just silver halo

OK besides the glitter you might want to try a toothpick tip dipped in some green or blue. and mixed in..  The bait you are trying to match has a greenish tint to the chartreuse

Edit:  Although I know CTom, Andy, Mo, Denny, and many other will have a much better understanding of what is "missing" from your color. Im still learning and trying things.

I agree that it seems to have a greenish tint, however I'm actually a bit color blind haha

I had thought about trying 2 more drops of color but I know with more glitter added this bait will catch fish in the private lakes I fish. I might try one more pour tomorrow and then fish with them Thursday.

Don't take this the wrong way but you probably will not be able to match perfect because the color they used aren't the exact same as yours. 2x isn't the best for transparent colors like the one above. I loooove 2x but it has a learning curve on how to tone it down. I think you hammered the color match, awesome job!

try adding some small blue glitter first - that may be all you need to change the tint 'enough' - otherwise - you do not want a 'full drop' of blue - you want 'just enough' otherwise it will overpower (depending on how big your batch is).

ctom is the master at that - I only the other day tried to get a 'half drop' and that was tough.

and great job on your first pour!

Hey Hawk,

You didn't say how much plastisol you were working with.  If it was 4 ounces, I think 6 drops of X2 was waaayy too much color.  Another 2 drops would really be wwwaaaaayyyy too much.  Your target bait seems to have some transparency to it, but neither of yours do.  I think you've added too much color.
Until next time.

The bait you are trying to match has a touch of green chartreuse in it.  A needle tip of a light blue ; or better yet a match head of green chartreuse; may be the ticket.

A fun rendition would be add a smidgeon of blue hi lite to your original recipe and a couple less drops of X2, add smig of silver flake.

Like Denny said, less color. I think the middle one has the glitter right. I might try the green hi lite. I too think it has some green in it.

Thanks for all the info and ideas, I'm pleased with my first try but I'm the type that always wants to do a little better. I think I'm really going to enjoy this and I can see another order going order going to Caney Creek in the next couple of days. This is great therapy for my PTSD, I also build Custom rods and Buzz baits. When my hands are busy my mind doesn't go places it don't belong. ;D ;D
