Question On Amount Of Plastic

Everyone seems to mix 4ozs but since I'm just pouring for myself and pouring small crappie baits that is a lot of plastic especially if color doesn't turn out right. Is it possible to just mix 2ozs or do you need 4ozs for the color to mix right?

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter - and unsafe.

I've mixed batches as small as 2 oz - it really depends upon the recipe - cTom is the master at that and I'm sure will be along shortly. The really hard part to me with such a small part is with the injector - if you're hand pouring, not as big a deal.
I think that when using X2 colors - the pigment is 'stronger' as compared to other companies - so smaller batches are harder to 'control'.

should have added this to prior response -
smaller batches will heat up much faster than larger.
It will suprise you -
so - if i'm doing 4oz - microwave is set for 1:30 - I'll stop it with about 20 to go, stir - let it finish - stir - add 30 seconds and check in 15 second intervals (especially for 'clearer' colors).
For a 2 oz batch - I wouldnt let the full first minute complete without a stop and stir - then + 30 and check in 15s.
hope that made sense.

Two works great I'd you add the color after you heat it. Stir/add till it looks catchable . Write the recipe down then you can add before heating. I mix 4 ounce for colors I know I use a lot and just tear off what I need add a small amount of virgin plastic and heat

Buy enough molds to work in 6 oz. batches
. I had consistency issues working with 2 oz. - Heat, color, air, etc. - 2 oz. was a pain. Another mold - larger crappie bait - would serve a dual purpose here. More baits for the same amount of work and provide an "easier" volume to work with.

For me. It seems easier to work with 4-6oz batches. If I go less than that, the shoot wont come out right (Bubbles, or not a full shoot). Plus you'd be surprised how fast a small amount of plastic can heat up (I think someone already mentioned it).
