Watch out; adding a split ring changes the orientation of the hook eye connection 90 degrees.  This can be good; or a bad; thing.

I'll have to play with the mold after I get one. I like the idea of being able to change the hook; thus a split ring. The lead head should be good forever (may have to repaint it from time to time) but hooks tend to get dull or break, etc. after some time and I would hate to have to throw the whole think away. But it would also be easy to just make up a new batch! Sorry for my ramblings.

I guess if it were me I'd forego the split ring and if the hook went bad just melt the lead off the insert and start again with a fresh hook.

Lose it before before anything gets dull.   Nothing else. I'll throw it in a tree and have to cut it off.

You could use a split ring if you were going to use a 30 degree or 60 degree jig hook but I just see that as another place to fail. Do the wire insert packs come in 100 count or smaller?

The wire inserts are available in packs of 100 or 1000.  The MSRP on 100 count is 8 dollars and change.  The 1000 count is 67 dollars and change.

The addition of a split ring could be looked at as a weak link, but I haven't known split rings to fail very often.  The larger problem for some might be that an added split ring adds more space between the bait and the weight.  That may be a good or a bad thing depending on who you ask.  I've considered adding a chain swivel and or a leader to the back side to add action or make it more like a C-rig.  The mold is made to work with most standard worm hooks (flat/turned eye) in almost any size strait out of the gate.  You can do with it what you will from there.

Split ring size can be a problem as to whether they will fit the eye of the hook on some hooks.
Once again, remember that adding a split ring changes the hook orientation 90 degrees.
I also have encountered problems trying to get a split ring and a bait keeper wire in the eye of some hooks.

Ok one little trick. For this mold. Is you have to angle the hooks toward the hinge so they don't fall out of the mold before you shut it.  Or that's the way I do it.   This thing shoot great every time.   Tournament fishing Sunday. Have one tied on. Will let you know if we do any good with them.
