In all honesty, the best crankbait clear coat is the one that suits you and your needs. You will have to go through the trial and error process to determine the perfect product for you.

There are hundreds of options out there. From single stage, two part, two part automotive, MCU, you name it. They all work and will coat a paint job. Things you need to take into account, dry time, cure time, how many coats, durability, can it hang dry, rotating drying rack etc.

Once you have found out what works best for you and your situation you will not only produce a better product but will have more confidence in it.

Devcon seems to make the best for me.....course that's about all I can get locally!  :o

I agree, get what works best for you.  There are some nice clear coats that can be airbrushed on that work really well if you don't fish many rocks or after toothy critters.

Some epoxies have a tendency to yellow over time.

Lots of info on clear coats all over the web.

Good Luck!
God Bless!

I like devcon  30 minute (has to be 30 minute) I mix enough for one bait at a time and thin with 1drop of denatured alcohol. Only one drop! I has to be rotated on a rack but it's no big deal. there are a ton of option ls I guess the new deal is clear concrete sealer but j haven't read up on it much

Devcon for me too, 30 minute.  Heard permatex & Bob Smith expoxy are good too.  Devcon for me is 3 miles away at the local hardware store so thats what I use.

I use Devcon 2 Ton 30 minute for all my spinnerbaits and large jigs and it has to be the 30 minute. I don't thin mine because I had trouble with bubbles but lead bodies are small compared to cranks and the 30 minute epoxy will get stiff pretty quick so denatured alcohol used sparingly will help. I would suggest you make or buy a drying wheel, probably something you didn't want to here but these types of hobbies can get expensive and do so in short order.

If you read through other forums, devcon 30 min makes the bills brittle.  Thats what they are saying anyway.  I use Devcon 30 min and I havent had any problems at all.   Smalljaw nailed it with the drying wheel and cost.  You can build your own though.  I dont use one, but I dont make a whole lot of cranks anyway.  I just repaint for friends here and there.
