Hook Slot Plate for the 3.75 Smokin Shad

Has anyone else had a problem with the way the Hook Slot Plate seats itself in the Mold? Just fits loosely in there and sometimes moves during the Injection Process. Any ideas on how to snug it up or keep it seated?

I don't have this mold. But I think. At one time Jason talked about using high temp rtv to help hold it in there.

My trick is to make sure I know which side the thing should seat on -

hint - the plate is rounded on one end and square on the other - one end holds better in the slot - should match the roundness so it 'seats' right.

Secondly - I hold the mold so I know which side is 'bottom' - and as I put it in the vice, I tap it so that I am sure it's seated - look thru the injection port - you can tell if it's right - just before I apply the pressure with the vice.

(IOW - put the plate in - hold up the mold 'bottom down' so it is in the slot - hold tight - clamp.

You can set the plate on a vice or anvil and pound it with a hammer on the lower corners (just enough to elongate it) and it will stick in the slot better.  You can also put it on a piece of wood and use a nail to pound a dimple along the bottom edge of it... if have too much of either, you can pound it back on a vice or anvil.

It doesn't take much... (and watch your fingers).

I left the packaging tape it shipped with on it. It worked perfect. Had to replace bout every 50 shots. Roll the bait out of the cavity and slip it right off the plate.
