And even more gliders....
« on: 01/08/14 08:59 UTC »
I was making some more 3" gliders as bucket stuffers yesterday and got a wild hair or two. My primary goal was to get about 30 of the purple/chartreuse bellied baits done but somewhere along the line I got side-tracked.

The blue is a re-melt from the other day while its belly is very thin clear-blue made by diluting the blue with new plastic. The belly color got lost in the shadow of the blue, but in the hand its a really pretty bait.

The orange bait has a chartreuse belly but the chartreuse really gets overwhelmed by the orange. Both colors are visible in the hand. Both of the color are very transparent too and that allows the blending to take place. Notice what's inside the orange bait?

Even though I'm not a fan of the 'queens', the purple/chart looks sweet!  (I honestly like it best of all your gliders.)

I don't care what state the purple/chartreuse gets fished in, they catch fish better than any other color combo except possibly trout and salmon. Trust me, there's no common ground betwixt the girls and the color that the fish favor.

"Notice what's inside the orange bait?"

Is it floating foam? or just a real nice blood line?

It's nice to know that even Color Ninjas get sidetracked.

good looking stuff Tom.

No foam. After I poured the chartreuse belly section I put just a spot of X2 tomato color on the front edge of each belly and then shot the orange in. It didn't drag quite as far as I would have liked but it makes a nice departure in the colors.

nice - really like the purple chartruese combo - and the blue - and the orange --- I'd say I liked them all, but I don't want you to get a big head or anything.

Wonder if Jerry has seen an uptick in glider mold sales?

Yes I hand pour just about all of my belly colors. I use a plate to shoot the smoke or lateral line color. I really don't do anything special but I o like to leave the hand poured belly sections in the mold and not remove them. When I use the plate I rub a thin wipe of worm oil on the belly side of it so nothing sticks and reduces the chances of pulling those belly halve out of their cavities. If I offered any tips it would be to sit down and do this a bunch of times using junk plastic until you have a good grip on what you need to do. Be sure to use colors of plastic that have a stark contrast with one another so you can see areas that need more attention. And secondly I would say not to get frustrated. Doing this detail work takes a person outside of convention and it takes time and practice to develop consistency. I don't post the screw-ups and trust me they are there. Yet.

I do want to chime in since Mr. Tom is talkin' Handpouring.  I've gotten into a little HP, myself, and have improved to some degree since I picked up a "Drizzle Spoon" from Amazon.

Sorry to ThreadJack.

Carry on, CTom Gliders.
