I know I've asked something like this before but I'm in need of help so bear with me. My stepdad is starting to sell a couple baits for me to a few of his crew members so I'm finding I need more colors! He works for international boilermakers so he sees guys from all over (mostly east of Colorado though) and I'm just looking for a few of all around good colors from different states.

I'm looking to spend roughly $60-$80 on new x2 colorants so some recommendations would be awesome. I'm also hoping this thread turns into an "X2 color cookbook" of sorts so please post your favorite recipes!

Easy answer: you need 'me all.  Like Pokemon.  :) If you don't have the colors listed here, might be worth seeing if they're still for sale:
http://custombaits.com/index.php?topic=4778.0

I have the following and can make a wide range of colors:
Watermelon
Black
White
Blue
Junebug
Red
Motor oil
Chartreuse
Fluorescent pink
Fluorescent orange

Glitters, hilites, and pearl can extend your color options too.  I have all of the hilites, pearl, and red, black, green, blue, holo purple, and holo silver glitters.
While I will obviously be adding to the above collection, especially glitters, I'm comfortable with the range of options the above colors give me.

In my opinion if your looking to make lures for bass fishing then Caney Creek Green is the green you'll like. That and black are my two main colors. But I'm one on here that keeps it very simple.

I'm mostly an orange green and brown type of guy because they seem to be the ticket for smallies but I don't know what's 'hot' in other states and places

I fish a little of everything so it's important for me to have a wide range of colors.  Having 1 of each color class (blue, green, red, yellow, orange, etc) and black and white for shading is more important to me than having 3 greens and 3 browns.  For regional hot colors, ask the people who want to buy them what colors they want.  :)  Hot colors pretty much everywhere:
Watermelon/red & watermelon candy... pretty much watermelon anything.
Black & blue
Junebug & junebug/chartreuse
pumpkinseed, pumpkinseed w/ chartreuse tail or orange tail for worms.
Don't be afraid to put your own spin on it.  I'm using motor oil instead of pumpkin and it's a great sub and a hotter color for me.  Green or violet hilite to the motor oil steps the color up nicely.  Motor oil orange has been a knockout color on waters where pumpkinseed orange has failed.  Lamar mentioned Caney Creek Green.  What about using that instead of watermelon for watermelon red and watermelon candy?  Might flop or might be a hotter color.

As for selling your baits, don't undercut the big guys.  What you do is more costly, even w/ low overhead.  At least match their price, asking more isn't absurd.  2nd and most important, excise tax is required for all fishing bait sales.  Avoid a fine and look into it.  A number of guys here are probably willing to help you out with that.  If it's more $ to get the permit than what you're going to sell, then don't sell baits.  Give them away or trade them.

Thanks for the advice botan. I will probably be looking into that later tonight haha. Is it like a portion of the sale or just a permit you buy once and it's done?
