Poison Jig Mold
« on: 02/06/14 13:16 UTC »
Has anyone had an issue with the hook moving around in the mold when closing the mold? When it starts to meet together the hook seems to move enough I can put another hook under it. It makes the weed guard not line up with the point of the hook.

What hook are you using, I probably run a heavier hook, L3886 and its very snug.

The way it sounds, is that you are pouring with your weedguards in place, is that correct? Also is this a brand new mold or one that has been bought used? The reason I ask is this. When guys buy this mold many don't like the hook that it was meant for and start putting in a Mustad 32886 hook in there. Well the 32886 is a thicker hook, and although it fits, it is very tight. So when you use it all the time the features in the mold slowly start to wear and loosen. With this said, when you go back and put in the 91768 hook in there it is too loose. So what you can do is put some heat tape in the hook shank slot this will tighten up the hook and keep it put. If you need to know how to do this send me a PM with your email and I will send you a pic of what I'm talking about.

It is the hook they recommend in a brand new mold. I pour with the insert for the weed guard not the weed guard in them.

That is weird, I don't have that problem. Again you could put a piece of tape in the loose part and when you put the hook in and close the mold, it should be snug. So I assume you are gluing in your weedguards after you paint the jig head. If that is how you do it, than you can tilt your weedguard a little to make it line up with the hook also. Just some suggestions.
